Warning Description: Winter Storm Warning
Warning Date: 3:48 PM CST on February 8, 2010
WarningSum:...Winter Storm Warning Remains In Effect Until 9 Am Cst
Tuesday...
Warning Message:A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 am CST Tuesday.
* A powerful winter storm system continues to take shape in the
plains states. It is starting to move in with its accumulating
snowfall late this afternoon and will continue to do so this
evening and overnight.
* Dry air wedged across the lower Ohio and mid Mississippi River
valleys will be yielding to moisture that is trying to overrun
the area this afternoon. By late this afternoon and into this
evening...this continued moistening of the atmospheric column
will start to result in what will be the beginning of
significant accumulating snowfall.
* Storm total snowfall amounts of around 4 inches are expected
across southeast Missouri...southwest Illinois...and far
western Kentucky later today through tonight. Closer to 3 inch
totals might occur further north up into southwest
Illinois...while approaching 5 inch totals could occur southward
through farthest western Kentucky...but on average around 4 inches
is the main accumulating snowfall threat for this warning. The
accumulating snow should be tapering off late tonight into early
Tuesday morning...with the warning ending by mid morning Tuesday.
* Snows to 4 inches or more will cause dangerous travel
conditions. In addition strong winds will come in later
Tuesday lasting through Wednesday.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of
snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in
an emergency. If you must travel...keep an extra flashlight...
food...and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
